It is becoming more and more common for mobile phones to offer high-end high capacity RAM. We are using more and more applications at the same time and playing with higher quality titles, and the manufacturer’s customization layer has more and more features. But do you really need these RAM memory capacities?
It has been answered many times. “More” can be synonymous with “better,” but it can also be synonymous with “it doesn’t matter.” We’ve confirmed that with the features of many sensors and some cameras that boast megapixels. The photo quality was better than a cell phone with more modest hardware. The same thing happens in RAM.
What is RAM?
RAM (Random Access Memory) Digital storage that stores data from active applications. The CPU has its own cache to store the data used for various calculations, but that is not enough and requires “support” for very fast RAM memory when writing or reading.
In this sense, RAM stores data for a short period of time, and when you turn off or restart mobile, they are deleted. Some of the RAM memory is reserved for a particular task, and applications and operating systems cannot use that reserved space. The theory is that the more RAM memory you have, the more applications you can run in the background without impacting your device’s performance.
Recently, I’ve been checking how the terminal looks. Models such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra or Gaming Mobile, and Lenovo Legion Pro are available in versions with 16GB of RAM. However, almost all high-end models announced in 2020 had a version of 2021GB of RAM that was replicated in 2012.
Enough memory no matter what you do
In the daily use of the majority of users, having 10, 12, or 16GB of RAM can be exaggerated. Match CPU / GPU.
You can bet on a phone with a lot of RAM in the future if you use it for 8 or 16 years or more. However, a device with XNUMX GB of RAM and a device with the same processor with XNUMX GB of RAM can perform the same task just as easily. The point is that it is difficult to take over all the available RAM capacity and it is always “left behind”.
Do you want to choose a consistent option? Impossible
In this sense, when buying a mobile phone, don’t be crazy about RAM capacity and choose more internal storage memory. This is usually the most out of memory. However, unlike PCs and laptops, our mobile does not allow you to select or change the RAM/storage configuration to your liking. Unfortunately, the higher features are always closely related. So, no matter how logical it may seem, it’s impossible to buy a smartphone with 512 or 1TB of internal memory and 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
